This page is dedicated to the VIKINGMEET event!!
Always the third weekend of September / Elk Horn, Iowa
SKJALDBORG is proud to present, along with the Danish Windmill Corporation , an event for our fellow steel combat and history buffs. The VikingMeet is an opportunity for those of us who are interested in Living History and Steel Combat to come together to share, learn, and have FUN. We are not going to pile a bunch of rules on anyone for this event, however, everyone who attends is expected to act with the utmost respect and decorum, as would be fitting any self respecting Northman (or woman). Bawdy, loud and even cantancorous is fine, but there must be respect for each other, as well as the fine town of Elk Horn. This is a reenactors weekend, with all our time and energy devoted to what we all love doing.
This will be our third year and it is going to be held September 20, 21 - 2008
You can expect to find blacksmithing, ropemaking, loom weaving, combat workshops, candle making, woodworking, cooking, storytelling, glass bead making, bronze and silver casting, armoring, weapon workshops, knallbinding, needlepoint and sewing, and open combat.... just to name a few things you can fill the time with. There may even be a chance to row and sail a Viking raiding vessel, named Yrsa. Come and check it out!

~Directions~
Elk Horn, Iowa is located 7 miles North of Interstate 80 at Exit 54. It is almost halfway between Omaha, Ne. and Des Moines, Iowa by way of I-80. By using this MAPQUEST service you should be able to find your way easily. Pinpoint your ending spot as the Danish Windmill in Elk Horn, Ia, and you can find directions to I-80, and on to theWindmill, from wherever you live.
Campers/ Authentic and Modern + RV Hookups
This is, hopefully, an event that may see some of the public wander through from time to time. It will be the harvest season, so it will be pretty quiet in town other than what we have going on. We hope to see alot of folks doing"in camp" things for the benefit of all who might stop and check it out.
For those who are able to bring camp gear, wheather it be period , or modern, there will be plenty of space to accomadate all. Getting an idea of just who is coming and which way each person is camping will allow me to lay-out the sites better. If you are authenti-camping and have need of a firepit for cooking meals, I'll need to know that ahead of time. If you plan to modern camp, there will be plenty of room at one of the firepits for you to cook at. There are also RV and Camper hookups located adjacent to the site with parking for large and small rigs. I'm not sure on just how many of these hookups there are, so let me know if you require one.
For a head count and the layout of campsites, please contact me HERE with your camping requirements.
Combat and Weapon Skills Workshops
A workshop in this sense is meant to give those folks who are interested , but have no prior experience with steel combat , an introduction to the basics. Hopefully sparking that interest enough for them to take it back home, practice with friends and allow it to evolve. It will also allow those with experience to show what they are capable of, get and give advice, as well as learn possible new techniques and weapons skills from one another. Control and responsibility are crucial to participate, and given that, the possibilities are endless. So, ....what are some of your ideas? Contact me here with your suggestions.
